Irish Waterways Association of Ireland
Whether you enjoy architecture, botany, cruising in company, cycling, fishing, history, living on board, photography, walking, wildlife, participating in community events and rallies or just getting away from it all, there is something for everyone to enjoy on the extensive waterways of Offaly.
The Grand Canal has 70km of its total 131km in Co Offaly. This unique, tranquil stretch of waterway is very interesting, and filled with Herons and the very colourful Kingfishers. There is a fine harbour for mooring in the centre of Tullamore with plenty of facilities. Tullamore is one of the finest Offaly busy towns that offers lots of restaurant for fine dining and a few shopping centres if your need retail therapy – something for every taste!
The Grand Marshall for the Tullamore St Patrick's Day parade will be the President of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, John Dolan.
John is a local man and canal enthusiast who has been heavily involved in the Offaly Branch of the Inland Waterways Association for many years. The St Patrick's Day committee is delighted that John has accepted the role as Grand Marshall as the theme for this year's parade is 'Offaly Waterways'.
