Fabulous Features for all the family at Tullamore Parade
The Tullamore St. Patrick’s Day Parade promises to have a lot of fun, colour, music, entertainment and a real French connection on Saturday next.

The Mayor of a French Town will attend accompanied by a Town Twinning delegation. The Rose of Tralee has agreed to attend the Presentation Night to present prizes to all the Parade winners. Offaly Hospice and Dochas are being honoured this year as their representatives, Humphrey O’ Connor and Mary Cowen, will be Grand Marshalls of this year’s Parade. Entries are higher than last year as many new groups have entered this year. The public are encouraged to come early as there will be a lot of interesting entertainment at the Review Stand from 10.45 a.m. before the Parade.
The Parade takes place on Saturday next, commencing at 11.30 a.m. sharp from the Car Park of the Bridge Centre. Groups should assemble there by 11.00 a.m. at the latest. The route is High St., Bridge St., Colmcille St., over the Kilbeggan Bridge and on to Arden Road as far as the GAA Centre. Late entries can still be accepted by calling Sean O’ Brien at 086 3892854.
The Grand Marshalls this year are Mary Cowen, representing Dochas and Humphrey O’ Connor, representing Offaly Hospice. Both of these organisations are being honoured this year as the Theme this year is “Highlighting the excellent services and support provided by Offaly Hospice and Dochas”
Entertainment before Parade
There will be entertainment at the Review Stand before the Parade, with music provided by Tullamore Comhaltas and dancing by the Durrow Set Dancers. The Official opening will be at 11.15 a.m. and there will be special presentations to the Grand Marshalls and the French Mayor.
The Parade MC will be Sean O’ Brien. All groups who wish the MC to comment on their entry should email this to email@example.com or by post to 83 Whitehall, Tullamore. It can also be handed in at the Review Stand on the day, but in good time.
Town Twinning Group
Ballycommon, Ballinagar and Geashill Town Twinning group will have a major entry with 100 students from their local schools marching. The Mayor of Jaux, Michel Jeannerot, with whom they are twinned will also attend, accompanied by a delegation from their Town Twinning group. The Mayor, His Town Twinning Chairman, Jean Christophe Auge, and Margo Shiel, Chairperson of the Ballycommon, Ballinagar and Geashill Town Twinning group will be honoured with a seat on the Review Stand.
There will be a special prize for the Best Window Display and all town centre businesses are encouraged to decorate their shop windows. Judging will take place on Friday night.
Best Dressed Dog
Dog owners are encouraged to enter with their dogs and to have them in their St Patrick’s Day best !! The OSPCA will have a large group for this coveted prize. There will be a special prize for the Best Dressed Dog.
Free Face Painting
Playtown Tullamore will be providing free face painting from 10.30 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. at the rear of the Bridge Centre, close to the Cinema. This group will also have people dressed in fun character outfits and will mingle with crowds to hand out treats to the younger onlookers.
As usual there will be generous prizes for the winners in the following categories: 1) Overall Winner 2) Best Youth Entry 3) Best School Entry 4) Best Band 5) Best Business Entry 6) Best Community Entry 7) Most Entertaining Entry 8) Best Dressed Dog 9) Best Sport Entry
10) Best Window Display. The Judges on the day will be Frank Nicholson, Joe Gallagher and Geraldine Byrne.
There will be a special Presentation Night for all the Parade winners on Thursday 5th April in the Bridge House Hotel and Offaly’s own, Dr Jennifer Byrne, the Rose of Tralee, will be present to do the honours. This will be a gala night with Seamie Nally, resident entertainer in the Bus Bar, providing much entertainment, including serenading the Rose of Tralee !
Business entries are welcome and they should assemble in Kilcruttin, opposite the Railway Station. We would like to sincerely thank the many local businesses who have supported us with a financial donation.
